The NBA is a big-time pyramid scheme, but it’s not the only one.
In fact, there are many other teams that fall into the same category, and they’re all very different.
Here’s a look at the 10 teams that are currently embroiled in one of the most prominent schemes of all time.
Golden State Warriors: $6,200,000 per season (inflation adjusted) The Warriors are currently one of only three teams to earn more than $6 million per season.
The Warriors have one of those players, Stephen Curry, that can play in multiple positions.
The other two are Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes.
The fact that they’ve earned more than that in one season makes the Warriors a big name in the NBA, but also a threat to the rest of the league.
Cleveland Cavaliers: $3,400,000 (in inflation adjusted) Cavaliers fans may have had enough of losing to the Cavaliers in the 2015-16 season.
After a series sweep at home in the first round of the playoffs, they came back in the second round in order to win it all.
But after an 11-0 start, Cleveland was swept by the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.
They then lost to the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference semifinals.
San Antonio Spurs: $2,400 (in adjusted) With a team with a lot of young talent, the Spurs were able to get over the hump and finish atop the Western conference.
However, they were then swept in the next round by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Oklahoma City OKC: $1,700,000 The Thunder were a top 10 team in the West last season, and this year they’ve been even better.
Oklahoma was also one of just two teams to finish with more than 50 wins.
But they finished in the bottom half of the Western conferences.
Golden States Warriors: More than $2.3 million per year (in current dollars) The Golden State and Golden State State Warriors were once two of the best teams in the league, and now both are in a situation where they can’t afford to keep their salaries the same.
The league’s salary cap is projected to reach $92.9 million for the 2019-20 season.
That’s nearly $2 million more than what the Warriors are expected to make in 2019-2020.
They’re currently projected to make $6.8 million, which would make them the second highest-paid team in basketball, behind the Philadelphia 76ers.
Los Angeles Clippers: $4,100,000-7,500,000 Per season (plus taxes) The Clippers are one of a handful of teams in basketball that have been able to play at the top level for so long.
Their record is a championship in 2014-15 and another in 2016-17.
However and despite the best efforts of their head coach Doc Rivers, the Clippers were able in 2016 to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2007-08.
Their salary cap this season is projected at $100.7 million, but that number could go up when free agency opens in 2019.
Chicago Bulls: $5,000,000 to $8,500 to $11,000 a game (in the most generous cases) The Bulls were one of five teams to win the NBA championship in the ’90s and ’00s.
But since the last time they won the title, they’ve fallen apart and the league is going through a major transition period.
The Bulls are in this position because they’ve become a team that’s just too good to keep winning.
New Orleans Pelicans: $10,000-$12,000 annually (in years) The Pelicans have won more games than any team in NBA history, and are one the most popular teams in all of basketball.
However they’ve also made mistakes that are putting them in a tough spot.
The Pelicans are one team that would like to make more money.
Orlando Magic: $13,000+ per year Orlando is one of several teams in this category that are projected to have over $13 million in salary cap space.
They are projected at around $13.5 million per team this year, which means that they could be in a position where they could make more than the Warriors or Spurs.
Boston Celtics: $20,000 ($14,000 + taxes) It’s easy to see why the Celtics have the highest salary cap in the game.
Their payroll has gone up significantly this year from a league-high $72 million to $94 million.
That means that the Celtics will have to make some decisions about how they’re going to use their salary cap to spend money.
There are also other teams in that position that could also see a decrease in salary due to free agency and the draft.
