The Washington, D.C.-based company that runs Amway’s pyramid scheme has hired a new top executive, according to The Washington Times, citing people familiar with the matter.

Amway has been under investigation by federal and state prosecutors for a decade for the recruitment and marketing of its members to win business from others, including customers who are not eligible for a membership.

But the company has been largely insulated from the scrutiny that comes with the sale of millions of dollars of goods and services to people who do not qualify for a program, according, The Washington Examiner.

The company has denied any wrongdoing and said it has taken steps to protect its members.

The Amway company also has a history of legal disputes with its former employees and has been sued over claims of fraud by former employees.

It also has faced criticism for its lack of transparency in how it handles its finances.
